I have an update on the digital marketing (MKTG-675) class I teach at Virginia Commonwealth University. In August we began the semester with a schedule that included discussions ranging from internet basics (unique users, page views, & visits) through email to e-commerce then onto SaaS and ending up digital HR tools by December 1st. Also, we have reviewed two Harvard cases and heard from several really great guest speakers. We also did a project in Google Ads for several local RVA companies. This involved learning the basics of SEM, setting up the Google Ads tool and optimizing campaigns. Each client had a set budget, and we focused on researching keywords that would convert for their goals.
I hope that by teaching the fundamentals of digital marketing, these graduate students can improve their organization’s marketing or start a new career in digital marketing.
